Mary Wright for Orleans Select Board

Meet Mary

Mary’s family has lived and summered in Orleans since at least the 1700s. She is the proud owner of the family home originally constructed around 1830. In the late 1990s, she started the wholesale renovation – including formalizing a year-round rental - to preserve it for her children and grandchildren. She and her husband Les moved here full time 13 years ago. Since retiring, Mary has shared her talents in municipal government, municipal finance, marketing and facilitation through membership on the Planning Board, Wastewater Management Advisory Committee, the Board of Water & Sewer Commissioners and as President of the Orleans Citizens Forum.

Expand Housing Access

Housing is the foundation of a thriving Orleans and a key tool for building the community we desire. The town has made great strides to increase the variety of housing. Let’s build on this success by finding additional ways to encourage the development of housing for a multitude of residents including families, young people just getting established, the year-round and seasonal workforce, and seniors with an eye toward affordability.

Increase Economic Investment

Orleans must enlarge its employment base, commercial base and population to build the additional economic activity needed to sustain the services and benefits it provides and is demanded by the public. Mary is committed to leveraging the retail business base, artistic and creative talent, environmental stewardship, and natural beauty to allow Orleans to be all it can be.

Celebrate History and Community

Orleans is the town we all love because of its history as a commercial center, fishing village, tourist destination and its heart. Both lifelong residents and those new to town bring an energy that should be rewarded with the resources that allow all to thrive. Mary recognizes the need to celebrate the heritage of the town while building a town ready to embrace the opportunities ahead.

Maintain Environmental Stewardship

The natural resources of Orleans - the beaches, ponds, estuaries, woods, open space - are what makes Orleans so special. We must continue to protect them to ensure our quality of life and sustainability in the face of climate change and development.
